There’re many discussions about it but here is my conclusion, I don’t believe I’m the first person posting this idea but at least I think It’s a variant.
The main theory is that Pearl was owned by a diamond: White diamond or Pink diamond but I think
So ridiculous as it sounds and I’m sure you have heard the theory before It’s possible.
It doesn’t matter when she always wears the four colors: blue, pink, yellow and white. The first time I heard this I thought those were just clothes so It wasn’t important but just pay attention
Like everybody knows blue and yellow pearl have similarities to their diamonds. The colors, hairstyles and gem placements. This made us think Pearl belonged to white diamond but we can see she wears pink diamond’s emblem on her space suit if you notice even on her space suit there’re yellow details besides in yellow pearl even her eyes are yellow but our pearl has blue eyes.
Officially she has pink hair, blue eyes (the same color in her shirt) and white skin like you can read in the guide by Sugar
wait… Isn’t her hair brown?
It’s weird but though normally her hair seems brown and her clothes green, her colors change in dark locations, apparently she’s always wearing a clear shade of blue and her hair is a soft pink that’s why in dark places you can see her better xD
So let’s see:
Hair color: pink (pink diamond)
Hairstyle: white diamond
Eyes color: blue (blue diamond)
Gem placement: white diamond
Skin color: white diamond
The only color isn’t literally part of her body is yellow but It’s on her spear.
Her young version, when they met Greg shows one only single thread of yellow, Why did they bother to add one yellow thread? cause It’s part of the character, she NEEDS to wear the four colors. Her first outfit in early episodes had a yellow line too. There’re other gems with several colors but why are those exactly? O.o
Blue pearl seems very calm and yellow pearl is energitic, smug and malicious. Yellow pearl shares reactions with her diamond, It’s like she’s mimicking her and that’s very amusing of course, cause It looks natural.
If that’s true then analyzing Pearl’s personality we should be able to get traits from her owner. Well, that’s the problem cause:
I agree with her, she has many talents and those talents are suspicious, she’s the most complicated of the crystal gems and It’s possible she’s manifesting all the diamonds’ roles.
Peridot for example: she served yellow diamond who seems in charge of engineering, technology in general. Peridot is a scientist, It’s part of her personality, she even find beauty in a well built machine.
Our Pearl is smart but in a way that isn’t limited to engineering. She’s like a mix of blue and yellow diamond. Let me explain this a little.
Blue diamond: The popular belief is that blue diamond is related to the organization and strategy because she had a court of nobles surrounding her, she called Sapphire to decide what to do with the rebellion and because the blue gems we have seen aren’t soldiers.
Now in the episode “historical friction”: Pearl said : I’m a gem of many talents and dedication to the facts is one of them. This remind me of Lapiz, whose function was to store information. The kind of emotion Peridot feels about machines, Pearl feels it for gem history and culture.
Besides in the episode “terror club” we found another blue gem, this one like Lapiz recorded events and projected them, at this time only Pearl and those two blue gems have that skill.
On the other hand Pearl emphasizes the use of strategy and she loves to explain things, uses a complicated vocabulary (Amethyst explained that in a very amusing way)
All those seems the same traits you could find in blue diamond.
curiosity: Pearl loves the nature in a sensive way cause it’s beautiful but because of its complicated math too ò_ó
-If she was owned by white diamond then which one was the characteristic they shared? we have to exclude everything related to intelligence, blue and yellow diamond cover that aspect in the diamond authority soo people believe white diamond was a warrior and our Pearl is able to fight but she said she wasn’t made to fight.
What more do we have? Well, Pearl is very ordered and has a psychosis about cleanness, but I really doubt that’s a characteristic in a diamond, no, that one is part of her role as a servant, there’s not other characteristic appropriate for white diamond (If you know please share it) so IT HAS TO BE their skill to fight
Then, why did she say she wasn’t made to fight? maybe cause gems are very specific so she isn’t so strong like quartz but very strong in comparison to Peridot, since Peridot is a technician she’s weak like a baby and this matter make me wonder if yellow and blue Pearls have the same strength Pearl has. It’s going to be very interesting to see more of them.
We don’t know anything about pink diamond at the moment but maybe we know something else about our Pearl. SHE IS VERY, VERY SENTIMENTAL
I wonder if Pink diamond was more emocional than the others
We’ll see, anyway Pearl is related to pink diamond (emblem) so we’ll know
If the theory is right then the consequenses will be very interesting because in that case she’s not defective like Jasper affirmed but she was made to be like this and Jasper thought so cause he/she hasn’t seen another pearl alike before.
If you remember when Pearl was reformed she adquired 3 forms before the usual one, we saw the third when they met Greg so I’m expecting the story about the 2 left. Especially her first form, a fancy one.
P.S:
When we saw her oldest version in “the answer” she didn’t have the four colors but actually She had them. When Rose and Pearl appeared in blue diamond’s ship Rose looked like this:
Usually Rose wasn’t so …Pink so maybe Pearl’s color is an effect of light like in the case of Rose because after when Garnet met them Pearl and Rose had different colors, normal colors again.

Pearls aren’t mass-produced, they’re “made-to-order” as Peridot said and Pearl seems “a fancy one”, since Pearls are things to show off just like people do with jewels and a gem like a Peridot couldn’t have one “a peridot with a pearl, what would they say back home?”, besides just hundreds of pearls in several planets sounds like they aren’t so common. It means she belonged to a high rank gem but that’s other discussion

I just realized how Rose died.
I’ve only been in the fandom for a few months now but I just realized how Rose Quartz died. See the show and the fandom always talk about how she gave up her physical form to be half of Steven. And I think a lot of people get confused by what she meant.
Like I’ve seen a lot of fanart, metas, theories, etc. which suggest that Rose actually physically gave up her physical form so that she could transform into part of Steven and keep him alive. In other words, Steven is her reincarnation. (Well, he’s half her reincarnation and half of Greg’s DNA.)
Which never made sense to me but then again I’m new to the show, so I’ve just sort of gone along with it.
But now I’m here to present you all with a simpler (and ironically, darker) theory.
Steven isn’t a reincarnation of Rose. Steven is just Rose’s child. Which is still impressive and groundbreaking since he’s the first human-gem hybrid. But he’s not a human-gem reincarnation. He’s just their child. All of his powers are inherited from his gem DNA, not from being a reincarnation. I’m going to go so far as to say that even his gem was a product of DNA and not a symbol of the fact that he’s Rose 2.0.

Hmmm…fascinating.
It appears that if a gem shapeshifts for a prolonged period of time, they’ll have severe consequences. And we see this even further when Steven does…

Now for some odd reason, that turns Steven back into a baby, but that’s not what I’m getting at. I’m getting at the fact that Steven’s body took an extreme physical toll after just a few hours of shapeshifting. Because, as Amethyst said, prolonged exposure to shapeshifting can cause someone to “really hurt themselves”.
Rose Quartz shapeshifted for nine whole months. And that’s not even counting the stretching she did to push Steven out.

When Rebecca Sugar and the show talk about how Rose Quartz gave up her physical form to give birth to Steven, they literally mean that Rose Quartz stretched herself out for such a prolonged period of time that her body (ie: her physical form) eventually faced the consequences and withered away into nothingness.
Steven’s Birthday wasn’t just a filler episode. It was the key to showing us the process by which his mother died.
